"Italy hosts a vibrant and growing biotech and life sciences sector, in which both public and private players interact dynamically and whose turnover exceeds €250 billion per year. The volume of R&D of the Italian pharmaceutical, medical device and biotech industries amounts to approximately €3 billion per year (11% of the total for the country). In terms of Venture Capital, biotech and life sciences are among the most active verticals. Alongside these remarkable business figures, Italy stands out for the high quality of its scientific research, patenting activity and high competitiveness for pre-clinical and clinical research, thanks in particular to a large pool of talents and cost-effective infrastructures.

As the pandemic has shown, biotechnologies and life sciences are industries of strategic interest related to national security, whereby the role of Governments remains crucial in providing leadership and orientation. On the background of this, it is imperative to develop a strategic international partnerships with Allies and like-minded Countries. For these reason, the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs has decided to host The Conference "Italy - USA: International Cooperation on Emerging Biotechnologies and Life Sciences", which will be held in Rome on the 14th November (at 9:30am). This is the first ever high-level institutional and business meeting between Italian and US stakeholders active in biotech and life Sciences. The Conference aims to launch a long-term bilateral conversation on emerging biotechnology and life science, looking in particular at international strategies on cooperation, funding opportunities and research and development patterns."
